Waldo H. Comfort
I played in a woodwind quintet with Wally, for about 20 years. Since our rehearsals always ended with refreshments, I had occasion to hear about Wally's military service in Korea, his years at the Eastman School of Music and many tales from his years as a musician in the Rochester area. Wally not only played his french horn in concert bands and orchestras; he also played string bass in a jazz band with Carl Dengler for many years. Wally also wrote arrangements for Carl and our quintet. I really enjoyed playing the numerous arrangements he wrote for us. There were several Mozart pieces (a favorite composer of his.) I fondly remember the many times we asked Wally to play his arrangement of the Mozart horn concerto, K. 407. But his arranging encompassed many styles of music as well, as he made arrangements of classical music, jazz and show tunes. He even made an arrangement of Israeli folk songs at the request of our bassoon player, which became one of the most popular pieces we performed. I miss Wally's musicianship and depth of knowledge that he brought to our quintet.

On behalf of the Perinton Concert Band, I offer condolences to Wally's family and I thank you for supporting the Band in Wally's memory. As it was for Wally, the Perinton Concert Band is a happy part of its members' lives, and we look forward to being able to bring music back to our community this summer. We have nothing but wonderful memories of Wally when he was part of Rochester Music Theatre during the 1960's. His talented contributions helped to make all of their shows a success. Our best to his family. Frank and Catherine (Wigg) Angevine.
